Why I Changed Ideal Clients…
If you’ve been here awhile, you know that I haven’t always targeted coaching coaches.
In fact, for awhile, I targeted a certain population because I thought had to, even if it wasn’t a good fit.
I saw a problem and knew I could solve it (or I thought I could)…
People that have chronically dieted and wanted to break free of the cycle to achieve overall health. BOOM. Perfect.
I was already naturally attracting these people, so it seemed perfect for me.
The problem was, even though I had done fad diets myself in the past, I didn’t resonate with this population. I found myself feeling unfulfilled and disconnected to these clients.
Now, I still have some of these clients and they’ve completely changed their mindset, which is SO exciting! Watching clients have that breakthrough is such a rewarding moment and I love coaching them.
But once again, something was missing. I knew I wanted to give more. I wanted to help people that I resonated more with.
I thought, “maybe athletes?” I’ve been an athlete my entire life, playing college volleyball and maintaining a lifelong competitive nature.
But that didn’t excite me as much as I thought it would.
So I thought more. I realized I kept complaining about the same thing: “coaches” that start coaching online with minimal to no experience and no knowledge. They did it because it’s the “cool” thing to do and they saw influencers having success with it.
So basically, the completely wrong reason to get into it.
I also remembered how much I struggled when I first started coaching online to actually prioritize me and my health. I wanted so badly to grow my biz that I would stay up late and neglect sleep, eat random shit throughout the day because I had no time for a real meal, and would work during my rest periods while training.
I then experienced business coaching companies taking on unqualified coaches and it frightened me. Like… these people are learning how to run a business they’re completely unqualified to run? And then we’re going to trust them with the health of others??
So I realized if this frustrated me that much, I needed to find a way to solve it.
* Insert Coaches Coach Collective (C3) *
I have never felt more fulfilled helping coaches.
In C3, I not only get to help coaches grow their business, but I also get to:
Program for high level clients in a way that I absolutely love
Hold coaches accountable to prioritizing themselves and their overall health (which is something many coaches neglect when they start growing their biz)
Educate coaches on multiple complex topics within fitness, nutrition, mindset, and so much more (with the help of my Registered Dietitian Advisor and Physical Therapy Advisor)
Be a second opinion for coaches when challenging client cases come up
Cheer coaches on when they hit huge milestones and keep them going when they hit low points
So why do I tell you all of this?
Because I want every coach to know that they need a specific ideal client.
You can’t just post shit to just to post. You can’t just put info out there because everyone else is and it’s the “cool” thing to do.
You need a way to stand out.
You also absolutely cannot help everyone, no matter how much you think you can. (Hi, I absolutely thought I could and quickly found out I absolutely cannot).
So, if it’s one thing you learn from me, it’s to nail down an ideal client.
No, they don’t need a name and a specific number of kids and to live in a farmhouse with 3 pigs and a golden retriever.
But they do need to have a very specific problem with a very specific goal (and not just to lose weight).
For example, you help busy moms prioritize their health by making time to workout 3x week. OR you help corporate professionals in their 30s prioritize movement and eating out less. OR you help ex-athletes find their identity post-sport while still helping them bring out their inner athlete.
BONUS: your ideal client was once you. You solve the issue that you once experienced and conquered for yourself.
YOUR story is power and if people know your story and can connect with it, they’ll be far more likely to invest in you.
